TRIO OF ZENFONE 8 VARIANTS ARE COMING, ZENFONE 8 MINI WILL FEATURE A 5.9-INCH DISPLAY & SNAPDRAGON 888 SOC

We’re about to complete the first quarter of 2021, and as anticipated we’re beginning to see the first leaks & report about devices that will hit the market in the second quarter of 2021. Recently, the ASUS ZenFone 8 lineup made its first appearance on the Google ARCore listing. Presumably, ASUS is producing three variants with different designs & aesthetics. The first smartphone was spotted on Google’s listing with ZenFone 8 Flip moniker, so we assume that this time around, this may be the only variant with a motorized flipping camera. Now, a new leak from XDA-Developers affirms that ASUS is developing three versions of its ZenFone 8 lineup. The brand will surf in the trend started by Sony's 'Xperia Compact' lineup & Apple’s iPhone 12 series last year and will bring a ZenFone 8 Mini variant.

ASUS IS Planning A ZENFONE 8 & 8 PRO, ZENFONE 8 MINI, AND ZENFONE 8 FLIP

A fresh new report from XDA-Developers brings some new intriguing tidbits about the ZenFone 8 series. Three devices will come with screen sizes varying from 5.9-inches on the smallest ZenFone 8 Mini to 6.69-inches on the Pro variant. The ZenFone 8 Mini is codenamed 'SAKE' and carries the 'ASUS_I006D' model number. The ZenFone 8, or 8 Pro variant is the 'PICASSO' and carries with the 'ASUS_I004D' build number. It is worth noting that all of the ZenFone 8 flagships will have AMOLED panels with FHD+ resolution and support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

The latest findings appear straight from the kernel source code of the newly released ASUS ROG Phone 5. It also mentioned a third smartphone codenamed “VODKA” and carrying the 'ASUS_I007D' build number. This might be the ZenFone 8 Flip variant found on Google’s ARCore listing. It is worth noting that all smartphones are true flagships since they are all powered by Snapdragon 888 SoC. So, the ZenFone 8 Mini will be a strong beast for all those who don’t want to carry a 6+ inch display. The ZenFone 8 Mini will also feature a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor for the primary camera. It also has a secondary Sony IMX663 sensor which is yet to go, official.

The ZenFone 8 & 8Pro will be equipped with the same IMX686 64MP image sensor for the main camera alongside a 12MP Sony IMX363 snapper. It also comes with a 24MP OmniVision OV24B1Q sensor and an 8MP OmniVision OV08A telephoto camera. Probably, the new devices will bring a design refreshment in relation to their predecessors.

As we have stated before, the ZenFone 8 Flip may be the only device holding the motorized flipping camera mechanism. We think that the upcoming ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Mini will finally adopt the punch-hole trend.
