A few days ago, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi successfully launched their first gaming phone, The Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition in China.

According to the firm, this device booked out in a few seconds in its pre-orders. As declared, the initial official sales of this device start in China at 10 AM (local time). But, in the initial official sales on April 30th, this gaming phone looks to be more popular than we assume. The brand’s latest announcement on the Chinese microblogging site "Weibo" reveals that the Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition sold over 100,000 units in a single minute. This is a great start for the Redmi as the brand is aiming to sell over 1.7 million units of this gaming phone just this year.

According to the General Manager of Redmi 'Lu Weibing', gaming phones are not successful because they are too costly for the general consumers. The Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition is the first attempt from Redmi to narrow the gap between gaming product & low cost. The pricing of this phone is very aggressive.  The Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition's price starts at 1999 RMB (~ USD 308) for the 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variant, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is priced at 2199 RMB (~ USD 339). The 8GB RAM + 256GB storage & 12GB RAM + 128GB storage has a same price tag, 2399 RMB (~ USD 370). The 12GB RAM + 256GB is costs 2699 RMB (~ USD 416).

In China, the entire shipment of gaming smartphones last year was around 1.6 to 1.7 million units. Redmi is planning to exceed this number with the Redmi K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition only, which is pretty ambitious say the least.

Moreover, Redmi states that it has been examining the gaming phone market for a quite long time. Lu Weibing also explained that the brand chooses to enter the gaming phone market because of the growing number of young users. Particularly in the Redmi's K series, there are many young users who spend their time playing games.
